Thomas Kemper

TheDieline.com has a nice highlight of Thomas Kemper Soda labels designed by Michael Osborne Design.

I really like these labels and think the design is very strong. The colors are warm and inviting, I love the updated nostalgic labeling. It makes me thirsty just looking at ‘em!

Japanese Monsters, Oh My!

I meant to post a blog earlier on these cool illustrations that BibliOdyssey located deep within the bowels of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies English homepage. Very creepy stuff. Now you know where “The Grudge”, “The Eye”, and all those scary movies came from!

My what big...wait...are your eyes hanging outta ya face?!!

Sage Logo Advice

I recently stumbled across a blog titled “9 Rules to Creating a Logo You can Live with and Still Get Paid”. Fetching title isn’t it? Anyway, there’s some great advice in there for those starting out in the world of graphic design. I myself have recently developed a logo for a client, and tried to use the method “show them a crappy logo, but with a really good one”. It doesn’t work. Anyway, check out the article here!

Perusing the Sunday Ads

I don’t know about you, but I’m one that gets the Sunday paper for one sole purpose-the ads! I’ll admit it, I am an advid consumer and I like to buy stuff, especially if I score a good deal. So while perusing these ads, I’ve found a lot of great designs and layouts, and some that…well…suck. Lets start of with the good:

Target

Target has beautiful clean layouts, with a nice sense of balance. I like the way everything has space, and the colors are vibrant and clear. The photography and product placement is pretty top notch as well. The nice thing is, I feel like the stores are setup in a very similar way. Admire Target’s ad here.

World Market

While I hardly shop here, I like the organic feel of their ads, and the clean look they have. Sometimes they attempt to cram in a little too much, but overall, pretty decent. Check out their ad here.

Now for the bad:

Big 5 Sporting Goods

Is there anything to really address here? It’s chaos. Absolute chaos. They’ve got good deals though….

Kmart

Ahhh Kmart. The Target wannabe. It tries…but fails. Uninspired and odd placement. Weird layout and off balance. Overall, awkward.

So there you have it. My opinion. How about yours?
