Alice in Wonderland-The Trailer

A few weeks back I posted a picture of the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s new film Alice in Wonderland. Now a teaser trailer has been released that premiered at Comic-Con. Behold below!

That Chestire Cat freaks me out! I don’t know if I could handle that in 3D…

Finally- a sequel to Tron.

I’ve been salavating over all the coolness of Comic-Con ‘09, and the highlight for me was the new Tron: Legacy trailer. The fact that this will also be 3-D seals the deal for me. I thank you Disney, for taking your sweet time to create a sequel to one of the greatest sci-fi movies. Check out the official site at www.flynnlives.com.

FLYNN LIVES!

Tim Burton + Alice in Wonderland = Extremely Anticipated

I myself wasn’t that thrilled with Burton’s incarnation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, however, I’m hoping he’ll redeem himself with his current project, “Alice in Wonderland”. I stumbled upon an article over at aintitcool.com who had this amazing picture to share.

A Very Merry UnBirthday!

A Very Merry UnBirthday!

I’m in! This looks to be VERY Burtonesque, and in his true form!

Portfolio Highlight: Mt. Hood Jazz Band CD Cover

This was a CD cover and inlay created for the Mt. Hood Jazz Band using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CS4. For the design, the intent was to capture the feel of jazz within the cover-raw, edgy and underlying elegance. The music notes used in the design are adapted from one of the tracks “Georgia On My Mind”.

Portfolio Highlight: Stylized Iconic Illustration-Typewriter

This project was to take an ordinary object, and create a stylized iconic illustration of said object, in addition to five emotional variations of the same illustration. The object that I selected was a typewriter. These could be used as a blog icon or gravatar-see my header above.

Portfolio Highlight: Alam Cocoa

The purpose of this project was to illustrate the ideation process in which a visual identity system was created for a theoretical cocoa company that is a member of the World Cocoa Foundation.  This included determining a name for the company relevant to the country of origin, creating a logo, and developing product packaging for three sample products. The country selected was Indonesia. The company that was created was Alam Cocoa, a company that specializes in organic chocolate products.

Portfolio Highlight: Dave’s Killer Bread

For a school project, we were asked to choose a brand or product that we love, and re-design their current logo. I selected Dave’s Killer Bread, which is a local successful bread company.  The current logo, while fun and playful, undermines the quality of the product, and could be perceived as “cheap”, when the bread itself averages $5.00 a loaf. The intent for the redesign of the logo was to enhance the logo, giving their quality product the recognition it deserves, but while maintaining the integrity of the original logo and illustration. The solution was to re-create the arm, remove the balloon text, and used Gill Sans Bold to call attention to the logo.

Disclaimer: Dave’s Killer Bread did not commission me for this redesign, nor are they affliated with the redesign in anyway. This was simply a school exercise. They make the best quality organic bread, and once you try it, you won’t buy anything else. Trust me, it’s killer!

Portfolio Hightlight:Zappo’s Catalog

This is a promotional shoe catalog I did for Zappos.com, highlighting skate and urban shoe brands. I chose the theme “Footwear to traverse the Concrete Jungle” to create a dynamic setting and to tell a story with the shoes.

Grilled Cheesecake Sandwich Odyssey-Part 2

So last night, I tried out the recipe for a Grilled Cheesecake Sandwich. I had some coupons for Sara Lee pound cake and Cheesecake, so that’s what I used for this recipe. The pound cake was quite spongy, and not very cake-like compared to the pictures of the original recipe, but it held together well for this reason.

First, I’ll start off with the how I prepped the dessert, then briefly explain how I cooked it, and finally end with the taste results.

I started with slicing the pound cake thin, and laid it out as you see below. I also had two pieces of cheesecake (more than enough) to layer between the pound cake slices.

I used a large non-stick pan with the heat set on medium, and melted a bit of butter in the pan.

I then cut the cheesecake into slivers and placed them between the slices of pound cake, and placed them in the pan. They didn’t take very long to brown, so you really have to watch them to make sure they don’t burn.

After they were browned to my liking, I placed the piece on a plate, and sliced it down the center, to help it cool down a bit.

There you have it.  When it’s plain, it’s really not that impressive. However, as far as taste is concerned, it was quite delicious. It had semi-crisp outside, with a creamy cheesecake center. The combination of the flavors from the pound cake compliment the cheesecake very nicely.  I was pleasantly surprised. Still, it seemed it needed just a little something more. So I decided to get creative, and add some typical cheesecake toppings to my next batch.

The first topping I tried was a sundae triple berry topping, which added another myriad of flavors to the dessert – definitely my favorite. I also wanted to try cherry pie topping, but I didn’t have any on hand. I then tried caramel as a topping, which gave it a taste like Dulce De Leche. This was a bit too sweet for my taste, but quite tasty none-the-less. The last topping I tried was chocolate syrup, and I don’t recommend this. With the rich taste of the grilled cheesecake, the chocolate does not mix well, and gives it a very odd and unsavory flavor. It’s not terrible, and still edible, but out of the three I tried, this was my least favorite. So try at your own risk, and don’t say I didn’t warn you.  Overall, this is a very easy dessert recipe, with very good flavor, however the flavors are very rich, so one piece goes a long way for its size. I will definitely eat this again in the future…actually…right now…
